How To Work Out Your Tablecloth Size
Before choosing a tablecloth, measure the table top surface and decide how far you want the cloth to drop down from the edge of the table.
1. Measure Your Table
Measure the width and length for square or rectangular tables. For round tables, measure the diameter across the table top.
2. Choose The Drop
Decide how far the tablecloth should hang down. A standard table height is usually 29–30 inches or 73.5–76cm.
3. Select The Cloth Size
Add the required drop to your table measurements, or use the charts below to find the closest suitable tablecloth size.

This example shows how to work out the tablecloth drop for a standard 3ft square restaurant table.
- Table size: 36" x 36" / 91cm x 91cm
- Suggested cloth size: 52" x 52" / 132cm x 132cm
- Tablecloth drop: 8" / 20cm on each side
- Floor clearance: approximately 22" / 56cm
Calculation: (52" tablecloth size minus 36" table size) ÷ 2 = 8" drop on each side.

Rectangular Table Example
This example uses a standard 6ft trestle table and shows the tablecloth drop on both the sides and the ends.
- Table size: 30" wide x 72" long / 76cm x 183cm
- Suggested cloth size: 70" x 108" / 178cm x 274cm
- Side drop: 20" / 51cm on each side
- End drop: 18" / 46cm at each end
Width calculation: (70" cloth width minus 30" table width) ÷ 2 = 20" side drop.
Length calculation: (108" cloth length minus 72" table length) ÷ 2 = 18" end drop.
Length calculation: (108" cloth length minus 72" table length) ÷ 2 = 18" end drop.

Round Table Example
This example shows how to choose a full-drop tablecloth for a 6ft round table.
- Table diameter: 72" / 183cm / 6ft
- Full-drop cloth size: 130" / 330cm round
- Tablecloth drop: 29" / 73.5cm all around the table
- Floor clearance: approximately 1" / 2.5cm
Calculation: (130" tablecloth diameter minus 72" table diameter) ÷ 2 = 29" drop all around.
How To Calculate A Round Tablecloth Size
Measure the table top diameter, then add the required drop twice — once for each side of the table.
Example: 72" table diameter + 29" drop + 29" drop = 130" round tablecloth.
A standard table height is usually 29"–30" / 73.5–76cm.
